Swiss plug with IP55 protection rating

On March 1, 2019, the new Swiss standard series SN 441011, which replaces the previous standard SN SEV 1011, was expanded to include a standardized plug system with IP55 protection.

Swiss plugs IP55 are used when a higher level of protection than IP20 is required. When Swiss plugs IP55 are plugged into suitable IP55 sockets, they offer protection against dust and water jets from any angl.

Areas of application include agricultural businesses, horticulture, construction, power distribution, and outdoor equipment.

The Swiss Federal Inspectorate for Heavy Current Installations (ESTI) has set the following transition periods:

The manufacture and import of products and devices with plugs and sockets in accordance with the previous SN SEV 1011 standard will still be permitted until February 28, 2022. From March 1, 2022, the new SN 441011 standard must be applied.
Products and devices with plugs and sockets that comply with the previous SN SEV 1011 standard must be withdrawn from sale and retail outlets by December 31, 2024, at the latest. From January 1, 2025, only products and devices with plugs and sockets that comply with the new SN 441011 standard may be sold, installed, or assembled.
